The established Clerkenwell Design Week , in its ninth edition, showcases the vibrant designers residing in Clerkenwell and has now become one of the most influential design hubs in the world. From 22 nd - 24 th May the streets of Clerkenwell were swept with rich colours flowing from the various exhibitions, pop-ups showrooms and fringe events. Clerkenwell is home to many creative practices including architects, interior designers and craft studios who open their doors to the festival's visitors to take part in workshops, talks and view displays of their work. In celebration of this event, leading furniture, lighting, textile, surface and product designers from around the world can also be seen on display, further accentuating the Clerkenwell design hub atmosphere.
Located within the quaint museum of the Order of St John, the outdoor furniture range Cane Line, from Denmark, presented an elegant display of their weather-resistant outdoor furniture among the tranquil water features and blooming flora. The beaming May sun encouraged visitors to recline and relax on the Scandinavian day beds and indulge in the unparalleled comfort provided by this durable and easy to maintain furniture range. The Cane Line designers focus on making aesthetics, comfort and functionality go hand in hand while adding value to the outdoor living experience. Cane Line bring the comfort of indoors outdoors through their outdoor rugs, tables, pouffes, cushions, lounge chairs, sofas, daybeds and more, which are on display all year round at the IQ Furniture showroom in Amersham .
The modern design feature of mixed media was very prominent at CDW18, many designers exhibited work uniting natural and man-made materials. Commonly seen was the traditional collaboration of wood and textile used within the interior design field, gracefully crafted wooden frames honoured luxurious fabrics beautifully manufactured into illustrious Scandi-style interior furniture. However, the use of marble was definitely at the forefront of the festivals visitors minds last week as various exhibitors showcased their multi-media designs. The charming nesting table from Frovi fuses elegant marble with an industrial style steel base, this contemporary nod to vintage design is undeniably making a comeback.
It was interesting to see how the design trends evident at Clerkenwell Design Week 2018 were in line with the style of the furniture ranges available at IQ Furniture .
